This grand Georgian facade conceals a rare mediaeval delight: a 14thC Great Hall and cloister walk. It is one of the largest surviving timber-framed buildings in Europe, and has fine unmodernised interior rooms, in style ranging from mediaeval through Tudor to Georgian. The house is packed with original features: substantial oak beams, mediaeval floorboards, ancient paint finishes, georgian panelling and working shutters. The house is in private ownership, and includes a William and Mary walled garden, mediaeval fishponds, woodland, and an eccentic topiary garden. Nearby there is a large parking area, excellent pub and carriage stables.
